Cherai Beach

The northern end of Vypeen Island has one of the most wonderful beaches we know as beach Cherai. Sea and backwaters can be best enjoyed on this beach, dotted with coconut palms. Just for awareness, the backwaters are a combination of lagoons, canals, estuaries and lakes.

15 Km of this stretch of soft sand along the sea is the best thing one could do while on beach. Along with that one could see the following attractions nearby the beach:

1. Holy places for all the religions- St Thomas Church, Cheraman Perumals Mosque, Thiruvanchikulam Mahadeva Temple and Kodungalloor Bhagavathy

2. Kottayil Kovilakom- It is a palace built by Dutch, just 14 Km away from beach.

3. Kottapuram Fort- Cranganoor Fort, built by Portugese, possessed by Dutch and captured by Tipu Sultan, has a long story for history lovers.

It could be reached from nearest airport Cochin International Airport, which is just 22 Km away. Nearest railway station in Ernakulam is 26 Km away from the beach. Ferries are also a popular way to come here. The months other than June to Septembers the months of monsoon, are best to tour this beach.
